Improvements include an expanded beach, new docks, additional picnic areas, and enhanced seating arrangements. These changes enhance the visitor experience and help manage larger crowds effectively. The redesign also incorporates solutions to previous drainage issues creating a more enjoyable and functional public space.

Key challenges the project addressed include:

  1. Circulation and Legibility: Reconfigured pathways to create distinct outdoor rooms, including a grand lawn, volleyball court zone, shaded picnic area, and a food truck plaza.

  2. Enhancing Park Edges: Enhanced with seating and planting to increase activity and provide more gathering spots.

  3. Creating Shade and Enhancing Biodiversity: Added trees, a shade sail, and expanded planted areas to boost shade and biodiversity.

  4. Drainage: Through the re-grading of the park.

Dustin was the design lead on this project responsible for writing the winning proposal, leading the design process, management of the tender and early phases of contract administration. He created extensive sketch explorations of the project and designed custom features such as the floating hammock dock and western Canada’s largest shade sail.
